History of The Bichon Frise
These endearing little dogs apparently originated from mainland spain. They date back to the time of Cleopatra. It is said that Spanish sailors took these little dogs aboard their ships and took them to Tenerife and there, for centuries they were known as the Bichon Tenerife. These little dogs were used to sell or to barter for gifts. The Bichon Tenerife was also depicted in portraits of the French aristocracy in 16th century spain.
For a while the Bichon seemed to become a little rare but some could still be found with the circuses and the fairs they were then quite often called the dog of the streets.
Bichons are very acrobatic and clever so they preformed well with the circus. They are also a very appealing breed of dog with a black button nose and black eyes which gives an inquisitive expression and a lovely tail plume that is carried over the back.
Bichon Frise Characteristics
The Bichon Frise is known as a Gay, Happy and Lively little Dog and a dog with attitude.
